Beyond the Sky

Beyond the Sky is a 2018 American science-fiction thriller directed by Fulvio Sestito. It follows a skeptical filmmaker investigating alien-abduction claims at a UFO convention, and stars Ryan Carnes, Jordan Hinson, Peter Stormare and Dee Wallace.

Abduction stories live on what they withhold, so the effects brief runs toward atmosphere rather than display. Volumetric light shafts and interactive lighting have to sit on live-action plates as though a source were really there; particle and energy simulation supplies the phenomena; creature and character animation is often kept in silhouette or half-frame; and CG environments stand in for craft interiors no set could provide. Desert-night material demands heavy roto and cleanup to marry practical lamps with added glow, and compositing carries the grain and lens character of documentary-style photography into every synthetic layer. Terminal FX delivered visual effects and animation on the film, part of its film, television and commercial portfolio.
