Curse of Chucky

Curse of Chucky is a 2013 American slasher film written and directed by Don Mancini and produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment. The sixth film in the Child’s Play franchise, it stars Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti and Brad Dourif, with Jennifer Tilly. The story confines a young woman who uses a wheelchair and her estranged family to an isolated house after a Good Guy doll arrives unannounced in the post.

Horror built around a walking, talking doll lives or dies on the seam between puppet and performance. Rod and rig removal, subtle digital eye and mouth work, and the enhancement of practical gore all have to vanish into the frame rather than draw attention. The genre also leans hard on atmosphere — storm light, rain, shadow and smoke resolved through simulation and compositing — and on rotoscoping and cleanup fine enough that nobody in the audience starts asking what is real.
