Sherlock & Daughter

Sherlock & Daughter is a mystery drama television series that premiered in 2025 on The CW in the United States and Discovery+ in the UK. Created by Brendan Foley with James Duff as showrunner, it is set in 1896 and stars David Thewlis as a diminished Sherlock Holmes and Blu Hunt as Amelia Rojas, a young Californian who arrives seeking her mother’s killer and believing the detective is her father, with Dougray Scott as Moriarty.

Rebuilding late-Victorian London on an episodic schedule is an environment problem before it is anything else. It calls for set extensions that grow a standing street into a skyline of chimneys and gasworks, matte painting for river, dockside and rooftop vistas, digital crowd and traffic augmentation to populate them, and continuous cleanup — aerials, road markings, double glazing and modern vehicles painted out frame by frame. Add gaslight haze and smoke simulation, rotoscoping for period costume, and the compositing that unifies it all: these are core Terminal FX disciplines, and the studio contributed visual effects and animation to Sherlock & Daughter within its film, television and commercial portfolio.
