Schmigadoon!

Schmigadoon! is an American musical comedy series created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio for Apple TV+, which ran for two seasons from 2021 to 2023. It stars Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key as a couple who become trapped in a magical town patterned after golden-age stage musicals, with a cast including Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth and Ariana DeBose. Season two moves the pair into the darker, Kander-and-Ebb-flavoured world of Schmicago.

A pastiche musical asks its effects team to build a place that was never meant to look real. Work of this kind runs through CG environments and matte painting to extend a soundstage town into painted hills and horizons, sky replacement and light-wrapping to sell a proscenium glow, wire and rig removal so choreography reads clean, and stylised particle and atmospheric FX for the moments when the storybook logic takes over — all resolved in compositing that has to sit between artifice and photography without tipping either way. Terminal FX contributed visual effects and animation to Schmigadoon!, one title among the film, television and commercial projects in its portfolio.
