The Exorcism of Molly Hartley

The Exorcism of Molly Hartley is a 2015 American supernatural horror film directed by Steven R. Monroe and written by Matt Venne. A follow-up to the 2008 film The Haunting of Molly Hartley, it stars Sarah Lind in the title role, with Devon Sawa as a defrocked priest and Gina Holden.

Possession horror asks the effects team to extend what the make-up chair and the camera already achieved rather than replace it. Digital prosthetics are blended over practical appliances, eyes and skin are replaced, facial features are subtly distorted, wires come off thrown and levitated bodies, and layers of smoke, embers and shaped light give a room its dread. Rotoscoping and paint work carry most of that load, with compositing holding every seam invisible. Terminal FX practises those crafts — cleanup and roto, FX simulation, character animation and compositing — and contributed visual effects and animation to The Exorcism of Molly Hartley as part of a portfolio spanning film, television and commercials.
