Tuscan Wedding

Tuscan Wedding (Dutch: Toscaanse bruiloft) is a 2014 Dutch romantic comedy directed by Johan Nijenhuis. It stars Sophie van Oers, Lieke van Lexmond, Jan Kooijman and Simone Kleinsma, and follows two families brought together for a wedding in the Italian countryside.

Romantic comedy is the genre in which visual effects work hardest to go unnoticed. A film sold on Tuscan hillsides needs sky replacement and unobtrusive matte painting to keep the light consistent across weeks of location shooting, set extensions and cleanup to strip modern signage, cables, aerials and traffic out of a landscape that has to read as timeless, and screen comps wherever phones and messages appear on camera. Add crowd tidying in the wedding scenes, stabilisation, and the rotoscoping and compositing that bind it all, and the effects budget vanishes into the postcard.
