Urge

Urge is a 2016 American thriller directed by Aaron Kaufman. It stars Pierce Brosnan as a mysterious nightclub owner who introduces a group of friends to a dangerous designer drug, with Justin Chatwin, Ashley Greene and Danny Masterson. Set over a weekend on a remote island, it follows the group as the drug strips away their inhibitions and turns the party lethal.

Thrillers about altered states ask visual effects to do their work inside a character’s head. That means subtle distortion and morph passes, particle and fluid simulation used to bend an ordinary nightclub into something predatory, and light and colour treatments that escalate scene by scene without tipping into cartoon. Around those set pieces sits a quieter workload: coastline and interior set extensions, wire and rig removal, digital enhancement of practical make-up and blood effects, and rotoscoping precise enough to survive strobing club lighting — everything finally reconciled in compositing. Terminal FX worked on Urge as a visual effects and animation contributor, within the studio’s film, television and commercial portfolio.
