Wolf Town

Wolf Town is a 2011 American horror thriller directed by Roel Reiné, credited as John Rebel. It stars Alicia Ziegler, Levi Fiehler, Josh Kelly and Max Adler as friends trapped in an abandoned western town by a pack of wolves.

When the antagonist is an animal, the visual effects brief becomes a study of animal behaviour. A wolf-siege picture calls for creature animation drawn from real reference — gait, pack spacing, the shift of weight before a lunge — together with fur simulation, eye-shine and breath in cold air, and a careful match between trained animals, plates and CG doubles so the audience never registers the handover. Around that sit rotoscoping through dust and long grass, removal of handlers, harnesses and safety fencing, matte painting to age and extend the ghost-town street, and compositing that keeps dusk light believable. Terminal FX contributed visual effects and animation to Wolf Town, part of its film, television and commercial portfolio.
