Death Race 2

Death Race 2 is a 2010 action film directed by Roel Reiné — a direct-to-video prequel to the 2008 Death Race, written by Tony Giglio and Paul W. S. Anderson. Released by Universal, it stars Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo and Sean Bean, and traces how a getaway driver imprisoned on Terminal Island becomes the masked racer Frankenstein.

Vehicular action at this scale is a simulation problem before it is anything else. Armoured cars shed panels and glass, pyrotechnics are extended digitally, and debris, dust and smoke are solved as FX passes so a crash beat cut together from several plates reads as a single continuous event. Underneath almost every shot sit less visible tasks: wire and rig removal, camera-car and crew cleanup, tracked muzzle flashes and bullet interaction. The prison arena itself typically calls for set extensions and matte painting to make a practical location feel vast.
