The Lords of Salem

The Lords of Salem is a 2012 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Rob Zombie. It stars Sheri Moon Zombie as a Salem radio DJ drawn into a coven of ancient witches, with Bruce Davison, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Judy Geeson and Meg Foster.

Rob Zombie stages hallucination as tableau, so a film like this leans on image-building rather than spectacle. Matte painting and CG environment work give ritual spaces their scale; digital set extensions push a modest stage into something cavernous; fire, smoke and fluid simulation drive the ceremonial passages; prosthetic enhancement and paint work sharpen the coven; and compositing has to hold surreal elements inside grainy, deliberately retro photography without ever letting them look pasted on.
